New York Times Will Go Out of “Print” Sometime in the Future

When you read my recent posts and perhaps attended one of the last conferences I was attending as a speaker you know that I am always very critical with the future of print publications. Many people call me being totally wrong saying that print might be dead in about five years and that TV and online will take over paper. .

Now my thoughts are even backed by The New York Times‘ publisher and chairman Arthur Sulzberger, Jr.. At todays’ WAN-IFRA 9th International Newsroom Summit in London he stated that he eventually expects the “Gray Lady” will no longer be a physical newspaper.“We will stop printing the New York Times sometime in the future, date TBD,” he said to the attendees.

In his speech he was pointing out new revenue models, and theses revenues will be for sure come out of the online market and online content as well as through content on mobile devices. Even he was not really saying something about audio visuel content, I am very sure, that this will be an additional revenue stream as well.

For sure an interesting discussion, and seeing that such a well known and huge print publication might be going away from paper printouts will defenitly set the stage for other media coporations as well.
